SAFETY WINDOW FILM ADELAIDE

Window film is an underrated security feature when it comes to guarding the safety of your home, unit or retail shop.

We often associate with the ubiquitous frosted window film found on bathroom doors and windows, or the privacy guard “one way” low transparency window film found on bedrooms windows of units in crowded blocks.

Window film can also provide significant security benefits. 3M Safety and Security Film, for instance, increases the strength of the glass pane and makes a would-be burglar’s attempt at breaking into your home or unit a difficult proposition. It also comes in handy when you’re wanting to protect beautiful large windows from harsh weather conditions that might otherwise pose a problem to the integrity of the glass.

Stan Bond also offers Anti Graffiti window film which is easy to install, remove and replace to keep your property looking its best even when it’s been the victim of vandalism!

Protect your home from external threats

Safety and Security Window Films are designed to hold glass fragments together following external impacts to windows. This reduces the chance of injury or damage from flying glass in the event of a break-in, and a deterrent barrier is created. Films are available in clear, safety-only versions, or as a tinted film with both sun control and safety features.

Frequently Asked Questions About our Security Window Screens Adelaide

Does Security Window Film really work?

Yes. Much like automobil shatter-proof glass, window glass augmented by Stan Bond window film is bound together by the polymer binding agent and this prevents glass from shattering completely and to remain largely intact.

What is the best Security Window Film?

3M Security film has better performance than Safety Film and can be thinner because it utilises micro-layered technology. The micro-layered film differs from conventional films by using up to 42 of layers of material in the same thickness as one layer of a conventional film. Micro-layered films alternate between a ‘stiff’ layer and a ‘gummy’ layer, in order to obtain added performance. The alternating layers not only add strength to the window, they add tear resistance to the film, giving additional safety and security to the window.

Typically, safety and security films are applied on the interior of the glass, however, Stand Bond Adelaide can also provide specially designed films that can also be applied to the window’s exterior where necessary.

How long does 3M window film last?

Most 3M window film applications will last upwards of 15 years (even up to 20 years) depending on your location and its climate.

What Is Safety and Security Window Film?

Safety and security window film is a thick polyester film applied to the interior surface of glass to hold broken glass fragments together on impact. Unlike standard window glass that shatters into dangerous shards, glass fitted with safety film remains in place after breakage. This reduces injury risk from flying glass and slows forced entry through a window. Safety film can be retrofitted to existing standard glass windows at a fraction of glass replacement cost.

How Thick Does Safety Film Need to Be?

Safety film thickness is measured in mil (thousandths of an inch). For basic fragment retention, 4-mil film provides entry-level protection. For security against forced entry, 7-mil to 12-mil film is recommended. For blast-rated protection in commercial applications, 14-mil or heavier film is specified. Stan Bond SA advises on appropriate film thickness based on the application, glass type, and the risk being addressed.

Safety Film vs Security Film

The terms are often used interchangeably, but describe different applications. Safety film (typically 4-8 mil) is designed primarily to hold broken glass in place to prevent injury. Security film (typically 8-14 mil) is engineered to resist forced entry and is combined with attachment systems that bond the film to the window frame, preventing the glass from being pushed inward even after breakage. Stan Bond SA supplies both types for residential and commercial Adelaide applications.

Where Is Safety Film Installed in Adelaide?

Common applications include glass sliding doors and ground-floor windows on residential properties, shop-front glazing for retail premises, glass balustrades and stairwell windows where broken glass injury risk is high, and skylights. Stan Bond SA installs safety and security window film across all Adelaide metropolitan suburbs for residential and commercial clients.
